RAM Buying FAQ
How does RamRadar track RAM prices?
RamRadar tracks DDR4 and DDR5 memory prices from live retailer sources — eBay, Newegg, and B&H Photo — multiple times a day. We store the full price history so you can see trends over time and know whether the current price is genuinely a good deal.
What does "Near ATL" mean?
ATL stands for All-Time Low — the lowest price we've ever recorded for that RAM kit. When a product is labeled "Near ATL," its current price is within 10% of the cheapest it's ever been, meaning it's a great time to buy.
Should I buy DDR4 or DDR5 RAM?
For any new build, choose DDR5 — current Intel and AMD desktop platforms require it. Note that DDR5 is not the cheaper option: in 2026 both are expensive, and at mainstream capacities DDR5 generally costs more per GB than DDR4, not less. Buy DDR4 only to upgrade an existing DDR4 motherboard, and soon — makers are winding down DDR4 production, so it is getting scarce. RamRadar tracks both so you can see the real current pricing.
Why are RAM prices so high right now?
Since 2025, surging AI and data-center demand has pulled memory-fab capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM), squeezing supply of consumer DDR4 and DDR5. Prices are now near record highs — roughly 2–4× their 2025 levels — and are forecast to stay elevated into the late 2020s. That is exactly when a price tracker helps most: RamRadar shows where each kit sits in its own price history so you can time the buy instead of overpaying at the peak.
How often are prices updated?
Prices are refreshed from our retailer sources multiple times a day. The homepage and product pages automatically show the latest data, and you can set up price-drop alerts to be notified when a specific kit hits your target price.
What RAM speed should I get for gaming?
For an AMD AM5 build (Ryzen 7000/9000), DDR5-6000 CL30 EXPO is the sweet spot. Intel Core Ultra (Arrow Lake) runs DDR5-6400 natively and higher with CUDIMM kits. For an existing DDR4 system, 3600MHz CL16 is the pick — though DDR4 availability is shrinking as production winds down, so grab it while you can. Use RamRadar to track prices on these popular configurations.
Are the links on RamRadar affiliate links?
Some are. RamRadar may earn a small commission through retailer affiliate programs (such as eBay and Newegg) when you buy through our links. This never affects the price you pay — it helps keep RamRadar free.
